HBO’s “Succession” is blowing up social media right now over its just aired fourth season’s third episode, completely changing the trajectory of the show’s final run.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “SUCCESSION” SEASON 4, EPISODE 3
The episode, titled “Connor’s Wedding,” sees half the characters on a boat to Liberty Island for Willa and Connor’s wedding – including the three siblings Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) – whilst many of the others accompany Logan (Brian Cox) on his jet to a meeting with Lukas Mattson (Alexander Skarsgard).
Onboard the flight, Logan seemingly suffers a heart attack with the crew trying to revive him. His children onboard the boat have to say their goodbyes over the phone to a seemingly unresponsive Logan who dies at some point.
The siblings, having gone to the airport to collect the body, embrace before Shiv reads a message to the press saying she and her brothers intend to be involved with Waystar Royco in the aftermath of Logan’s death.
Unfurling in essentially real-time, Culkin revealed in the episode’s making of featurette that much of the episode was shot in a nearly-unbroken take. The series shoots on film, which can only shoot for 10 minutes at a time, so production hid film reels throughout the set for quick changes.
Cox confirms to Vulture he will pop up again in flashbacks for a couple of scenes later in the season.
With Logan’s death, the remaining seven episodes see a major shift in the show’s narrative as the siblings and various underlings scramble for power and control of Waystar RoyCo – the vultures are circling.
Check out a trailer for the remaining seven episodes below, along with a making-of featurette released by HBO.
