The reviews have been stellar, the sales have been strong, and now that it has had a few weeks of being out in the wild, Capcom has opted to further monetise its “Resident Evil 4” remake.
Microtransactions have now been added to the game, enabling players to pay extra to upgrade their weapons more quickly. The addition came with a free Mercenaries mode DLC added to the game the other day, accompanied by eleven new pieces of paid DLC dubbed ‘Exclusive Upgrade Tickets’.
Each ‘ticket’ can be redeemed at the Merchant’s shop, letting players speed up the upgrade process. In regular play, you must max out a weapon’s upgrades before purchasing the exclusive upgrade.
By bringing one of these tickets to the Merchant, you get instant access to a weapon’s exclusive upgrade at any point during the game, and it’s free of charge (in-game, its costs typically range from 60,000-100,000 pesetas).
Each ticket costs $2.99, but there are a number of multipacks letting players buy three or five tickets at a discount. VGC worked out that if players were to buy everything, they would get 23 upgrade tickets at a total cost of $55.89.
There was no indication from Capcom prior to release that microtransactions were being added to the game, which has sold four million copies in its first two weeks across all platforms.
