Ryan Coogler Plans “The X-Files” Reboot?

FOX

“Black Panther” and “Creed” director Ryan Coogler is reportedly developing a new version of FOX’s iconic sci-fi franchise “The X-Files”.

In an interview with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko (via Bloody Disgusting), original “The X-Files” series creator Chris Carter teased that Coogler is currently developing the new version of his franchise.

What’s not made clear is if this will be a ground-up reboot, another revival, a legacy sequel, or something else – all that’s known is the filmmaker’s involvement at this time.

Carter says in the interview: “I just spoke to a young man… Ryan Coogler… who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.”

The original series followed FBI Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who investigate supernatural phenomena ranging from a global conspiracy involving alien colonisation to more monstrous events involving all sorts of creatures.

The original run lasted nine seasons from 1993 to 2001 before being revived for two more seasons in 2016. In total, 218 episodes were produced, along with two feature films.
