“Riddick” Trilogy Takes Over Netflix Top 10

Universal Pictures

Ten years after the release of the last entry in the series, the Vin Diesel-led “Riddick” trilogy has dominated the Netflix Top 10 chart in the United States this past weekend with all three titles making it into the list.

The odd surge of interest for the films – 2000’s “Pitch Black,” 2004’s “The Chronicles of Riddick” and 2013’s “Riddick” – comes shortly after an update a few weeks back about a fourth installment with Diesel and filmmaker David Twohy reuniting for “Riddick: Furya”.

As of this morning, “Riddick” sits at number four, “The Chronicles of Riddick” at number seven and “Pitch Black” at number nine – the reverse chronological order of the films.

The films take place in a future when humans have colonized much of space and splintered into different cultures. Humanity as a whole being subjugated under a fanatical religious empire known as the Necromongers who intend to convert or kill all who oppose them.

Twohy and Diesel have long been confident that they would do a final installment of the franchise with Riddick finally finding his legendary lost homeworld of Furya. The previous three films have pulled in $267 million worldwide with the first and third entry being the better reviewed and cheaper entries in the series.
