“Willow” Cancelled After One Season

Lucasfilm

Disney+ has cancelled Lucasfilm’s “Willow” revival after just one season.

The news comes just two months after the eight-episode season, a sequel to the 1988 movie of the same title, concluded its run on the streaming service.

In the series, Willow and his new crew set out to find Elora Danan, the baby from the original who is now an adult and has vanished without a trace.

Warwick Davis, Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Amar Chadha-Patel and Tony Revolori starred. Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle served as co-showrunners.

Though it earned mostly positive reviews from critics, the series never broke into the Nielsen top 10 rankings of streaming titles during its run – suggesting the audience just wasn’t there.

The axing comes amidst shakeups at Lucasfilm and Disney which are reconsidering their output and pulling back on some of the lavish spending on streaming content.

“Willow” joins other Disney+ series like “Big Shot” and “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” which were abruptly ended back in February.
