The first trailer and featurette have been released for the Russell Crowe-led supernatural horror “The Pope’s Exorcist” opening April 14th this year.
Crowe plays real-life priest Father Gabriele Amorth who was officially appointed the Chief Exorcist of the Vatican. The film will be inspired by his demonic case files collected over 35 years in much the same way “The Conjuring” film franchise is inspired by Ed and Lorraine Warren’s case files.
The story follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.
Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe and Franco Nero co-star whilst Australian helmer Julius Avery (“Overlord,” “Samaritan”) directs from a script by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos.
Doug Belgrad, Michael Patrick Kaczmarek and Jeff Katz produce the project.
