A new gameplay clip has confirmed that the upcoming “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” answers a major fan criticism of its predecessor.
That criticism? When it came to human opponents like Storm Troopers, the lightsaber acted more like a glowing bats that hit people as opposed to a large laser sword that could slice through them.
According to IGN, the reason 2019’s highly successful “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” didn’t have dismemberment outside of droids and creatures is all down to a strict rule by Disney and Lucasfilm.
That rule says it should only be used sparingly, and is only really allowed when it’s a ‘big moment’ and “shouldn’t be seen much, if at all, in general action”.
The rule may have been slightly lessened going by newly released gameplay in a clip from the same outlet showcasing the combat stances and lightsaber fighting styles of the game’s hero Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan).
At one point near the halfway mark (1:28) in the clip, he’s engaged in combat with several Scout Troopers and… you can see for yourself.
It’s not clear how often this will be seen in the Respawn Entertainment-developed EA title as both a nine-minute clip released the other week along with the trailers for the game thus far have not shown any such scenes before, whilst most of the combat in this clip remains similar to the last game.
Kotaku subsequently reached out to EA and Respawn about the clip and were told “The footage is what it is” and that the publisher wouldn’t provide any additional comment.
“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” arrives in stores on April 28th, nine days after the third season finale of “The Mandalorian” on Disney+ on April 19th.
