After some lean years, the major Hollywood studios are getting back in the game with the dozen or so film-related commercials for this year’s Super Bowl essentially finalised.
Studios are spending up to $7 million for a 30-second spot during the February 12th telecast of the Kansas City Chiefs-Philadelphia Eagles showdown on FOX.
Some studios release longer trailers ahead of the game with cut-down versions during the event. Others hit during the event itself and then wait to see the reaction over the next 24 hours as social media catches up on the spots.
Warner Bros. Pictures, which has sat out previous Super Bowls, is spending big with a spot for “The Flash” film which will be the first footage from the film since the DC Fandome clip reveal over a year ago.
Universal Pictures is of course going with a “Fast X” TV spot which will come after an extended trailer arriving next Friday. It is also said to be considering a 15-second pre-game spot for “Cocaine Bear” but will not be doing one for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”.
Paramount Pictures reportedly has spots booked for “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” “Scream VI” and “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”. Sadly there will NOT be a new spot for the next “Mission: Impossible”.
Disney Pictures is going big with no less than six spots to arrive this year including a first look at the “Captain Marvel” sequel “The Marvels” along with new spots for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” Pixar’s “Elemental,” the live-action “The Little Mermaid” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”.
Sony Pictures is sitting this year out. Still in question are the likes of Amazon, Netflix and Lionsgate with potential spots for “Creed III” and “John Wick: Chapter 4” maybe making the list.
