Universal Pictures and Illumination have released a new 30-second TV spot for the upcoming “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”.
The clip showcases more of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong fight seen in the previous trailers and offers both a first look at Cat Mario along with a first listen of Seth Rogen’s voice as Donkey Kong in the film.
This adaptation of the popular Nintendo games follows two Brooklyn plumbers who are brothers and best friends: Mario, the brave one with the ‘let’s-a-go’ attitude, and the perpetually anxious Luigi, who would prefer to go nowhere.
The pair are forced to leave behind their struggling plumbing business and wind up in a whirlwind adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom as they try to unite the land in an effort to defeat Bowser.
Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Armisen, Sebastian Maniscalco, Kevin Michael Richardson and Jack Black also lend their voices to the film, which opens in late March in various countries around the world, followed by an April 7th debut in the United States and April 28th release in Japan.
A release on Peacock is expected to follow in late May. Should the film prove a success, Universal is reportedly already beginning to consider spin-offs such as a Donkey Kong spin-off movie with Rogen set to reprise his role. Previously Day expressed an interest in starring in a potential “Luigi’s Mansion” movie.
