Waller-Bridge Sets “Tomb Raider” Amazon Series

Paramount Pictures

Celebrated British scribe and Emmy winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge, hot off co-starring with Harrison Ford in the upcoming “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” is continuing in that vein with her next gig.

The “Fleabag” writer/star and “Killing Eve” creator is attached to write scripts and executive produce a new “Tomb Raider” TV series at Amazon Prime based on the popular video game series according to THR.

The trade reports that it’s unclear if Waller-Bridge also plans to star in the series which follows the adventures of archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. The project is in the development stages and stems from Waller-Bridge’s recently renewed overall deal with Amazon.

Amazon’s former head of comedy and drama Ryan Andolina and former head of overall deals Amanda Greenblatt will also both executive produce via their own production company.

The property has previously spawned three film adaptations – two with Angelina Jolie and one with Alicia Vikander in the Lara Croft role. Camilla Luddington, Keeley Hawes and Minnie Driver have voiced the character across multiple video game titles whilst Hayley Atwell voiced her for an anime series.

The news follows on from Waller-Bridge signing on to develop “Sign Here,” an adaptation of Claudia Lux’s book, earlier this week. Waller-Bridge was also previously attached to star opposite Donald Glover in a TV series version of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” but the actress exited the show over creative differences.
