Bear’s Edebiri Joins Marvel’s “Thunderbolts”

Hulu

“The Bear” breakout actress Ayo Edebiri has joined the cast of the villain-centric “Thunderbolts” film at Marvel Studios and Disney Pictures.

Specifics of her role are being kept secret but she marks the first real new character for the film as all the other announced cast so far have been returnees from other films and shows.

The film centers on a team of Marvel anti-heroes and shady characters who team up on missions at the government’s behest. It’s basically Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad.

The “Thunderbolts” cast includes David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost, Florence Pugh as Yelena, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Harrison Ford replacing the late William Hurt as General Thaddeus E. ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.

Edebiri plays Sydney Adamu in “The Bear,” the adored Hulu series set in a high-pressure Chicago sandwich shop. She is also known for her voice work in the Netflix animated series “Big Mouth” and recently appeared in Sundance entry “Theater Camp”.

Jake Schreier, known for Robot & Frank, is directing with “Black Widow” scribe Eric Pearson writing with filming on the project to kick off sometime in June.

“Thunderbolts” is currently slated to open on July 26th 2024, and will serve as the fifth of six films in Marvel’s Phase 5 plans.
