“Avatar 3” Brings Back Whale & Hunter

20th Century Studios

Whilst the third “Avatar” will deal primarily with the ‘Ash People’ Na’vi and a fire motif, there will still be plenty of ocean action from the sounds of it, according to a new report in Empire Magazine.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER”

Speaking with producer Jon Landau, he confirms that the colossal rogue whale-like Tulkun creature known as Payakan will be back for the next chapter.

More surprisingly, Brendan Cowell’s Australian-accented Mick Scoresby, who has been hunting Tulkuns for their brain fluid, will also return – despite his arm being ripped off and his being lost at sea.

Landau adds the whale’s relationship with Jake’s son Lo’ak will also be deepened: “We view Payakan as a character, not just as a creature. We will continue to explore his relationship with Lo’ak.”

Landau also hints Edie Falco’s General Ardmore is also back as the leader of the RDA, saying: “Way Of Water was Quaritch’s vendetta, but Ardmore’s, or the RDA’s, goals have not changed.”

They join new to the franchise actors like Oona Chaplin as the Ash People Na’vi leader Varang, Michelle Yeoh as human scientist Dr. Karina Mogue, and David Thewlis as an unnamed Na’vi character. Also returning are regulars like Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Jack Champion, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss and Britain Dalton.

“Avatar 3” is tentatively scheduled for a December 20th 2024 release.
