Peacock has premiered the trailer for “Brick,” “Looper,” “Knives Out” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” filmmaker Rian Johnson’s new series “Poker Face” which launches on the streamer on January 26th.
The ten-episode series is a character-driven, case-of-the-week mystery comedy-drama that takes inspiration from classic ‘howdunit’ procedurals (ala “Columbo”) where the murderer is revealed early. Thus the story becomes about how the detective solves the case and figures out the how and why of the crime.
Natasha Lyonne stars as Charlie Cale, a casino worker on the run who takes her uncanny preternatural ability to tell when someone is lying and can’t help but use it to solve a variety of crimes. At the same time, someone is after her and wants to use her skill for their own nefarious ends.
Among the many guest stars are Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lil Rel Howery, Adrien Brody, Benjamin Bratt, Ellen Barkin, Charles Melton, Chelsea Frei, Cherry Jones, Ron Perlman, Chloë Sevigny, David Castaneda, Clea DuVall, Danielle MacDonald, Hong Chau, Tim Meadows, Jameela Jamil, Judith Light, S. Epatha Merkerson, Tim Blake Nelson and Luis Guzman.
Johnson directed the first, second and ninth episodes and wrote the season premiere and finale. Lyonne herself directs the eighth episode. Both will executive produce the series alongside Ram Bergman, Nena Rodriguez, Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman.
“Poker Face” will debut with four episodes on launch day, whilst the remaining episodes will premiere weekly on Thursdays and run all the way through to March 9th.
