Edgar-Jones Is Carole King In “Beautiful”

Sony Pictures

Daisy Edgar-Jones (“Where The Crawdads Sing,” “Normal People”) has scored the key role of music legend Carole King in the film adaptation of the stage musical “Beautiful” at Sony Pictures.

The original stage show ran on Broadway for five years and over 2,400 performances – earning its lead actress Jessie Mueller a Tony Award.

It boasts many of King’s own greatest hits “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “I Feel the Earth Move” and “You’ve Got a Friend”. Her Grammy-winning second album “Tapestry” still holds the record for the most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist.

King is also a prolific songwriter, penning chart-topping hits for the likes of Aretha Franklin, Little Eva and Mariah Carey. Sony has obtained the rights to use King’s songs, as well as life rights from King and other artists featured in the show.

“The Kids Are All Right” scribes Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg co-wrote the script with Cholodenko set to direct. Paul Blake, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce.
