Santa Monica Studio has announced that “God of War Ragnarok” has sold 5.1 million copies in its first week (five days) of release.
That makes it the fastest-selling first-party launch game in PlayStation history, beating the four million copies which “The Last of Us Part 2” sold in its first three days in 2020.
The number sets a new record for the “God of War” franchise. In comparison, the 2018 entry managed 3.1 million sales in its first three days. That game went on to crack 5 million copies sold in its first month and 23 million copies by November this year.
Sony Interactive Entertainment released “God of War Ragnarok” on both PS4 and PS5 on November 9th and reviews peg it and “Elden Ring” as the main competitors for this year’s Game of the Year award.
