Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (“Shoplifters,” “Like Father, Like Son”) brought his Korean feature “Broker” to Cannes this year, and recently wrapped the series “The Makanai” for Netflix.
Turns out he likes to keep busy as the filmmaker revealed in Tokyo on Friday that he has already shot his next Japanese film – “Monster”. Currently in post-production, the movie is set for release in Japan on June 2nd 2023 and will likely premiere in May at Cannes.
Marking the first film Kore-eda has directed that he didn’t also write himself (Yuji Sakamoto penned the script), cast and story details are being kept under wraps. Gaga and Toho will co-release the film in Japan, while Genki Kawamura will produce.
