One of the year’s most talked about films, the Indian action epic “RRR,” is getting a sequel.
Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, who directed the film, has confirmed that a story for the sequel is currently being worked out by his father – screenwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad.
The filmmaker discussed the sequel at a screening in Chicago over the weekend, saying his father is the story writer for all his films and that “we discussed a bit about [‘RRR 2’], and he’s working on the story”. It’s too early for further details on the film, which is still in very early development.
The Telugu-language historical fiction epic “RRR” is one of the most expensive movies ever made out of India, with a reported budget of $72 million. The three-hour-plus story follows real-life 1920s Indian freedom fighters Komaram Bheem (NTR Jr) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan), who unite against a common enemy – the British occupying their land.
But this is no dry period epic – the film is wall-to-wall packed with action choreography, stunt work, pyrotechnics and VFX. The film has been a word-of-mouth smash since its debut in March. It is currently streaming worldwide on Netflix.
