Remedy Entertainment has officially announced that its 2019 game “Control,” which won quite a few Game of the Year awards that year, is getting a sequel.
Formerly known as Codename Heron, the title will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but no release date has yet been set as the title is in the concept stage.
Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy says: “I’m now proud to confirm that the bigger-budget Control game, also known as Codename Heron, is Control 2, a full-blown sequel to our award-winning game Control.”
In a press release, Remedy says it has signed an agreement with international video game publisher 505 Games to co-develop and co-publish the full sequel. The pair previously worked together on the original.
The game will be built on Remedy’s proprietary Northlight engine and tools. Remedy will publish the game on PC, and 505 Games will publish it on console.
The game will boast an initial development budget of 50 million euros, and Remedy will retain the ownership of the game’s intellectual property. Development, marketing, and post-launch investments along with future revenues, will be equally split between 505 Games and Remedy.
It joins another highly anticipated sequel, “Alan Wake 2,” which is also in the works at Remedy. Both franchises are part of a shared universe with the Alan Wake character appearing in some DLC for the original “Control”.
