Whilst it’s not certain if Ryan Coogler will return to direct a third “Black Panther” film, the man has been working with Marvel Studios to develop spinoffs of the franchise for the Disney+ service.
Before now, the only such project we knew to be in the works would be a series focusing on the Dora Milaje and would see Danai Gurira’s Okoye leading the cast.
Speaking to Variety, producer Nate Moore has revealed plans have grown to be much bigger than that – rather Wakanda could become a hub for several series:
“This world is expansive, and there are so many great characters. Beyond what happens with this film, there are more opportunities to go back to Wakanda.”
Moore adds that there are ‘some ideas’ for shows based on established characters from “Black Panther,” but also series featuring characters within Wakanda “that would be completely new… there are no shortage of ideas, let’s put it that way.”
The first “Black Panther” film grossed over $1 billion and earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and the sequel introduces a range of characters that could get their own spin-offs or one-off special presentations.
