“Hocus Pocus 2” Sets A Ratings Record

Disney

Disney’s long-awaited “Hocus Pocus” sequel has set a record for streaming minutes of a movie on Nielsen’s weekly chart.

The high-profile release drew more than 2.7 billion minutes of viewing in the week of September 26th to October 2nd. As the film launched on September 30th, it means it pulled in all that viewing in just three days.

It also easily beat the previous streaming movie high water mark set by Disney’s “Encanto” launch on Disney+, which had 2.2 billion minutes of viewing over the Christmas/New Year holiday last year.

As Nielsen results are several weeks behind, Netflix’s “Dahmer” was still easily in the top spot with almost 4.4 billion minutes viewed in that week.

Refresh viewings of the original “Hocus Pocus” also made the chart, collecting 774 million minutes of streaming on Disney+ and coming in seventh. Nielsen’s rankings measure only streaming via a TV screen (meaning mobile viewing is not counted).
