Disney+ Set As Global “Doctor Who” Home

BBC

Disney+ has officially been announced as the new home of “Doctor Who” outside of the British Isles where it remains with the BBC.

In a press release today, The BBC and Disney Branded Television have come together to transform “Doctor Who” into a global franchise on an unprecedented scale.

Under the terms, the new seasons will exclusively premiere on the BBC for the UK and Ireland, and on Disney+ in more than 150 markets around the world beginning in late 2023. No word as to whether the deal will incorporate any past seasons.

The series will be produced in Wales by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios Production. Its new leading man, Ncuti Gatwa, made the announcement this morning during an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan”.

David Tennant returns in the new form of the Fourteenth Doctor for three specials in November next year, before Gatwa takes over the role as the Fifteenth Doctor over the festive season.
