Polish game developer CD Projekt Red has announced a new trilogy of “The Witcher” games are in the works, along with a “Cyberpunk 2077” sequel, an ‘innovative’ new “Witcher” game, and a new IP codenamed ‘Hadar’.
First up, the DLC for “Cyberpunk 2077” is titled ‘Phantom Liberty’ and is currently in its final production phase with over 350 people developing it.
Then the direct sequel, dubbed ‘Project Orion’, aims to “prove the full power and potential of the Cyberpunk universe”. The first game, famed for its problematic launch, has seen a resurgence in recent weeks thanks to a Steam discount.
Meanwhile “The Witcher” has several things in the works. ‘Project Sirius’ is being dubbed an ‘innovative take’ on the Witcher series and will boast multiplayer. Molasses Flood (“The Flame in the Flood”) is leading the development of the project.
‘Project Polaris’ is “built on the legacy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”. Currently in pre-production, it plans to be the beginning of an all-new Witcher trilogy, with all three games aiming to be delivered over a six-year period after ‘Polaris’ comes out.
‘Project Canis Majoris’ is a final new “Witcher” game, a story-driven, single-player open-world RPG set within the Witcher universe which is being handled by a third-party team made up of ex-Witcher veterans.
Finally, there’s ‘Hadar,’ the new IP being developed by CD Projekt Red which isn’t even a game yet as the project is that early in development.
Unreal Engine 5 will be used as the engine for the games moving forward, and the plan is to introduce multiplayer experiences to multiple future titles. The PS5, Xbox X|S and PC upgrade patch for “The Witcher 3” is also still slated for this year.
