It’s official, the “Community” movie is a go with streaming service Peacock confirming the movie continuation of Dan Harmon’s sitcom is coming.
The show’s fans have long touted the line “six seasons, and a movie” and a few weeks back Harmon himself indicated a film is coming as “conversations and agreements are happening” and negotiations were underway.
Today, series star Joel McHale tweeted the message “…. And A Movie” whilst tagging Peacock and several co-stars.
Peacock then confimed with a posting saying “You’ve been asking @Communitytv fans, and it’s finally time” and posting a picture saying in the show’s title font #AndAMovie alongside the Peacock logo. Sony Pictures TV, which produces the show, also co-announced the film.
Original stars McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong are all confirmed to be returning and, as part of the deal, Peacock has also acquired non-exclusive rights to the full six season 2009-2015 run of the original show which can also be found on Netflix and Hulu.
Further details such as a director and an estimated premiere date have not been revealed. It’s unclear if former cast members Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover will make an appearance.
Harmon is behind the movie as executive producer and writer, along with Andrew Guest.
