“Freaks” directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein have been set to direct a sixth film in the “Final Destination” franchise at New Line Cinema.
Original franchise producer Craig Perry returns to produce alongside Sheila Hanahan Taylor, “Spider-Man: Homecoming” director Jon Watts and “Atlanta” producer Dianne McGunigle.
Watts penned the treatment for what is being dubbed a relaunch of the franchise, with writers Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor (“Ready or Not,” this year’s “Scream”) penning the script.
Whilst the story is under wraps, the core concept remains as a character has a premonition of a horrific event, cheats their death and saves several other lives in the process – only for death to come for the survivors one by one.
The directors beat out as many as two hundred candidates for the gig with a search for helmers taking about a year. The original five films were released from 2000-2011 and earned $700 million globally.
