In the wake of its D23 presentation last weekend, Disney Pictures has shuffled around its release schedule a bit.
The biggest change is the not unexpected pulling of Patty Jenkins’ “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron” movie from the release calendar. The film has long been scheduled for December 22nd 2023, even though development has been in limbo for many months.
Disney has also locked in dates in 2023 and 2024 for many of the films it tubthumped at its presentation.
Next year will see Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins” finally score a release on April 21st 2023, the film adaptation of the “Haunted Mansion” ride will arrive a few months later on August 11th 2023, and Disney Animation’s just revealed “Wish” will debut on November 22nd 2023.
Onto 2024 and Pixar’s “Elio” will arrive on March 1st 2024, followed three weeks later by the live-action “Snow White” film starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot on March 22nd 2024.
Then, the “Inside Out” sequel is on track for a June 14th 2024 release, and the Barry Jenkins-directed “The Lion King” sequel “Mufasa” is set for a July 5th 2024 release.
Finally an untitled Marvel movie has been moved from February 16th 2024 to a new date on September 6th 2024. The shift now puts it squarely between “Thunderbolts” in July and “Fantastic Four” in November, so it’s not clear which ‘Phase’ of the MCU it is a part of.
