“Stranger Things” alum David Harbour has signed on to star in the “Gran Turismo” movie at Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.
A film adaptation of the professional driving simulator franchise, the project is being helmed by Neill Blomkamp (“District 9,” “Elysium”) from a script by Jason Hall (“American Sniper”) and Zach Baylin (“King Richard”).
Described as ‘the ultimate wish fulfilment tale,’ the story follows a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills were good enough that he won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.
Harbour will play a retired driver who serves as a mentor to the teen. Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti are producing.
Sony is planning a theatrical release on August 11th 2023. Also today, the first poster is out for Harbour’s new dark comedy-action film “Violent Night” in which he plays Santa Claus.
