Earlier this week came the news that filming was underway on the long-in-the-works new film adaptation of the swords-and-sorcery fantasy property “Red Sonja”.

Millennium Media is behind the project, which is being helmed by M.J. Bassett and has Matilda Lutz in the lead. Now a new report at THR indicates British comedian/actor Sacha Baron Cohen was reportedly approached a while back and offered $7 million to play the film’s sorcerer villain Kulan Gath.

Cohen’s involvement was said to be during the prior Joey Soloway-directed incarnation of the project. After he rejected the project, the reboot was retooled with rewrites right before Bassett came on and replaced Soloway.

Production is currently underway in Bulgaria, with plans for further filming in Greece. Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Manal El-Feitury, and Katrina Durden also star in the film.
