Netflix Releases Surprise Sandman Episode

Netflix has quietly released a surprise extra episode of its recent adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” graphic novels.

A blend of live-action and animation, the 64-minute two-part episode adapts the standalone stories “A Dream of a Thousand Cats” and “Calliope” from the comics.

The former is directed by “Undone” director Hisko Hulsing is animated using 2D techniques and the implementation of real oil paintings of each frame. Sandra Oh, Michael Sheen, David Tennant, James McAvoy, Joe Lycett, Nonso Anozie and Gaiman himself guest star.

“Calliope” is live-action and is helmed by the show’s season finale director Louise Hooper and sees Melissanthi Mahut playing the eponymous muse alongside the return of the Three (Nina Wadia, Souad Faress, and Dinita Gohil). Arthur Darvill, Kevin Harvey and Derek Jacobi also star, whilst Tom Sturridge reprises his role as Dream in both segments.

The series premiered on August 5th and has been the number one TV show on the streaming giant for two weeks in a row. All eleven episodes of “The Sandman” are now available on Netflix worldwide.
