2022 Venice Film Fest Line Up Announced

The 79th Venice Film Festival has announced its major line-up with plenty of high-profile world premieres that are likely to be big players come awards time.

The in-competition line-up includes Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe biopic “Blonde” starring Ana de Armas, Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” starring Brendan Fraser as a morbidly obese recluse, and Luca Guadagnino’s young cannibal romance tale “Bones & All” starring Timothee Chalamet and Taylor Russell.

There’s also the “In Bruges” team of director/writer Martin McDonagh along with actors Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell reunite for “The Banshees of Inisherin” and are joined by Barry Keoghan this time out. Noah Baumbach will open the festival with the Adam Driver-led “White Noise,” while also on show is Florian Zeller’s “The Father” follow-up “The Son” starring Hugh Jackman and Vanessa Kirby.

There’s also the long-awaited return of Todd Field with the Cate Blanchett-led “Tar,” and the return of Alejandro G. Inarritu with “Bardo” which marks his first film since “The Revenant”.

Out-of-competition is fairly stacked too with Olivia Wilde’s thriller “Don’t Worry Darling,” Paul Schrader’s “Master Gardener,” Ti West’s “Pearl,” Lav Diaz’s “When The Waves Are Gone,” and Walter Hill’s “Dead For A Dollar”.

On the TV front, Lars von Trier’s “The Kingdom: Exodus” and Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Copenhagen Cowboy” will both screen.
