There’s been talk for some time of getting “Kingsman” and “Rocketman” star Taron Egerton to take on the role of Wolverine in the eventual Marvel X-Men films, with the actor seemingly keen on the idea.
Other fans however have said they see him as someone more suitable for the role of Cyclops. Turns out Egerton doesn’t want that role, to the point of having turned down an offer to play it in 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse” – with Tye Sheridan ultimately taking the part.
In a recent interview on the ‘Sway In The Morning’ Syrius XM radio show, Egerton gave a pretty definitive answer when asked about possibly playing Cyclops:
“To be honest, the reason that conversation never went any further is because I didn’t want to play a character for a potential series of movies where you don’t see my eyes.
I felt instinctively, creatively, that the eyes are the windows to the soul. I would find that challenging, and I just didn’t find it an intriguing prospect, so it’s not that they never offered it to me, but there was a conversation, a real conversation, that never went any further.”
Cyclops of course emits powerful red energy beams from his eyes that force him to wear eyewear to protect others – meaning his eyes always have to be covered.
Egerton confirmed a little while back he had talked to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige about the role, but that topic didn’t come up in the new interview. Egerton can currently be seen in the Apple TV+ series “Black Bird”.
