HBO has premiered the first trailer for their new series “The Idol” from Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye and “Euphoria” creator Sam Levison.
The 90-second teaser stars Lily-Rose Deppe and The Weeknd in a story set against the L.A. music industry. The action follows a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop singer.
The series made waves back in April when it was announced it would be overhauled and taken in a new creative direction, which led to various cast and crew leaving – as such it’s not clear who is still onboard.
Tesfaye and Reza Fahim are credited as writers with Joe Epstein serving as showrunner.
