It’s official, the Jay Hernandez-led “Magnum P.I.” reboot has been saved nearly two months after its cancellation by CBS after four seasons.
Deadline reports that a deal has just closed for NBC to pick up the series and order twenty new episodes, split across two new seasons, with an option for more.
Those twenty episodes will bring the show’s run-up to 96 episodes in total. The cast is reportedly now being picked up and are finalizing deals to return for the new seasons which Universal TV and CBS Studios will once again co-produce.
Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang and Amy Hill co-star in the show which hails from showrunner Eric Guggenheim. Justin Lin, John Davis and John Fox are executive producers.
The pickup isn’t a huge surprise as it is believed to be the most-watched broadcast series to get cancelled this year.
