Ian McKellen, Gemma Arterton, Mark Strong, Lesley Manville, Romola Garai, Ben Barnes and Alfred Enoch are all set to star in the period thriller “The Critic” for BKStudios.

Based on Anthony Quinn’s classic novel “Curtain Call,” the story unfolds in 1934 London with McKellen as Jimmy Erskine – the most feared drama critic in town.

Arterton plays Nina Land, an actress who is determined to win his favor. When Jimmy finds himself in the crosshairs of his newspaper’s new owner, David Brooke (Strong), Nina is entangled in a dangerous web of blackmail, deceit and murder.

Anand Tucker (“Hilary and Jackie”) is directing from a script by Oscar nominee Patrick Marber (“Notes on a Scandal”). Bill Kenwright is producing and filming is now underway in London.
