Game developer DICE’s new general manager Rebecka Coutaz says the company has ‘no time’ to pursue any other projects outside of EA’s “Battlefield” franchise.
The Swedish developer, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts, has mostly been known for the “Battlefield” series over the years but did also develop both the critically acclaimed parkour title “Mirror’s Edge,” it’s not so well-received sequel, and the two EA “Star Wars Battlefront” games.
Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Coutaz was asked whether any more non-“Battlefield” projects were off the table, with the “Mirror’s Edge” franchise specifically cited. She responded:
“Totally. We are only focusing on Battlefield 2042. There is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE deserves to be, and that is what we’re going for.
The team is here to make Battlefield, and they’re passionate about Battlefield. We have many Battlefield veterans. So it’s important for us to improve Battlefield 2042 and the experience that we can provide to our players. We owe them that.
The company has reportedly spent over six months ‘fixing and improving’ that most recent “Battlefield” entry which launched to a not particularly positive reception late last year.
