Netflix has released the first looks at a pair of upcoming anime series that tie into the worlds seen in other media.
They’ve released the first photo for a series based on Legendary’s 2017 Monsterverse feature “Kong: Skull Island,” and a teaser trailer for a series based on CD Projekt Red’s 2020 video game “Cyberpunk 2077”.
Created by Studio Trigger (“Gurren Lagann”) and Netflix, “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” is a standalone ten-episode anime set in the Cyberpunk 2077 world. “Silent Hill” game composer Akira Yamaoka will be handling the music.
The story follows a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edge runner – a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
Meanwhile “Skull Island” follows shipwrecked characters desperate to escape the most dangerous place on Earth – a mysterious island home to prehistoric monsters, including the greatest Titan of them all, Kong. The project hails from Powerhouse Animation Studios.
“Skull Island” hasn’t set a date as yet, while “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” arrives in September.
