Along with revealing that news yesterday about a new “Ghostbusters” animated Netflix TV series in the works, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” director Jason Reitman and co-writer Gil Kenan have spoken more about the franchise’s future.

The follow-up to ‘Afterlife’ is currently going by the codename ‘Firehouse’. Kenan says: “We’re writing as quickly as we can. We had the story before we finished Afterlife. And we have been crafting this with as much care as it took to build Afterlife into a worthy sequel.”

The pair did confirm Ernie Hudson is returning to his role of Winston Zeddemore with his character and company “figuring strongly into the future of Ghostbusters” says Reitman.

‘Afterlife’ ended up grossing $197 million worldwide along with garnering decent critical praise and strong audience appreciation. The pair are also working with Dark Horse Comics on a comic book series that will help bridge the gap between “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and the upcoming sequel.

They confirm a “Ghostbusters” animated film is also in the works with Sony Pictures Animation with directors Jennifer Kluska (“Hotel Transylvania: Transformania”) and Chris Prynoski attached along with writer Brenda Hsueh.

Finally, there’s also “Ghostbusters VR Academy,” a training simulator VR video game set in the world of Ghostbusters which is due out before year’s end.
