Activision’s “Diablo Immortal” has become the game with the worst Metacritic user score in Blizzardâs history according to VGC.
The free-to-play MMO was released on June 2nd on iOS and Android, and as an open beta on PC. However, the title quickly has become subjected to a wave of negative reception for its heavy focus on microtransactions.
With nearly 2500 user ratings counted on the site, the game has a user score of 0.5 out of 10. It also has an incredibly high percentage of negative user reviews at 95.5%.
The game reportedly cannot be downloaded in the Netherlands or Belgium due to legislation there prohibiting the game’s release due to its inclusion of loot boxes. It also was the subject of a report on the weekend at Bellular News (via Game Rant) in which it was calculated that to get enough Legendary Gems to maximise a characterâs statistics, it would cost players $110,000 in real-world money.
The Metacritic score means Blizzard now has the dubious honor of releasing three games with a user score of less than 1.0 on Metacritic in three subsequent years (the other two being heavily criticised Warcraft tie-in titles “Warcraft III Reforged” and “World of Warcraft Classic: Burning Crusade Classic”).
The game is achieving better user scores on the iOS App Store and Google Play store with 4.6/5 and 3.3/5 scores respectively. Even on Metacritic, the game is pulling in a 75/100 with critics.
