Val Kilmer will reportedly “have a presence” in the upcoming “Willow” sequel series for the Disney+ streaming service.

Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment during the Star Wars Celebration event, star Warwick Davis and executive producer Jonathan Kasdan discussed how Kilmer returns to his role of disgraced knight Madmartigan from the 1988 Ron Howard-directed film:

“Val’s a huge part of this, and the first conversation I had, when Warwick and I got the green light to do this, was with Val. We wanted his character to be a part of the story. We wanted him to be in the show.

Because we were shooting during [the COVID-19 lockdowns], he wasn’t able to come to Wales and shoot with us. But he is in the show in a big way. And we’re pretty excited about it. Madmartigan lives on.”

Earlier during the show’s panel, Kasdan spoke some more about this:

“Val has been in communication with Joann [Whalley] and I and Madmartigan is a character in the story and what we didn’t get to shoot with him on Season 1, we’ve made him a major figure in the story.”

Kilmer of course went through a two-year battle with throat cancer several years ago and now requires the use of an electric voice box. He’s still very much out there and working, recently playing a small but key role in current box-office champ “Top Gun: Maverick”.

Ellie Bamber, Erin Kellyman, Tony Revolori and Cailee Spaeny also star in “Willow” which will premiere in November on the Disney+ service.
