Christopher Walken has scored the small but key role of Emperor Shaddam IV in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” which begins shooting in July in Budapest.
Walken will play the ruler of the known universe who was the one that initially sent the Atreides family to Arrakis in order to cause their downfall. Jose Ferrer played the character in David Lynch’s 1984 feature.
The story resumes with Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) fighting alongside the Fremen to free the desert planet of Arrakis from the grips of House Harkonnen and the Emperor.
Walken marks the final casting of the three major roles from the novel that weren’t in the first film. Florence Pugh and Austin Butler take on the other two parts of Princess Irulan and Feyd respectively.
Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin among others are returning for the follow-up which Villeneuve directs from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts.
