Starz, MGM

Starz has announced that Canadian actor Charles Vandervaart (“Murdoch Mysteries,” “Lost in Space”) has scored the key role of William Ransom, the secret biological son of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), in the seventh season of its period drama “Outlander”.

In the series, the now young man and courteous aristocrat arrives in North Carolina as he looks to join the British Army or aid in the conflict with the American Colonies.

Production on the new run is currently underway with the sixth season finale having just aired.

That’s not the only big bit of TV casting today. Florian Munteanu (“Creed II,” “Shang-Chi”) has joined the cast of the spin-off series “Vikings: Valhalla” at Netflix.

Munteanu will portray George Maniakes, a real-life general of the Byzantine Empire who answers only to The Emir. The actor most recently shot “Borderlands” and scenes in “Creed 3”.

The early 11th century set series premiered in February and has already been renewed for two more seasons.
