Netflix has reportedly dropped “Pearl,” the animated series created by Meghan Markle through the Archewell Productions label the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry set up at Netflix in 2020.

The family series was still in the development stage and was to center on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who finds inspiration in a variety of influential women throughout history. Its scrapping was part of the wave of cutbacks at the streaming giant following the precipitous stock drop it incurred after reporting a drop in subscribers.

“Pearl” was to be the first animated series of Archewell which was set up to create scripted series, docu-series, documentaries, features and children’s programming. The Archewell deal still has numerous projects on the way including the documentary series “Heart of Invictus”.
