Game developer Crystal Dynamics has announced that the next entry in the “Tomb Raider” game franchise has entered development and will use the Unreal Engine 5 engine which had its full release today.
Crystal Dynamics previously indicated Lara Croft’s next adventure will ‘unify’ the timelines of the most recent reboot trilogy that ran from 2013-2018 with the original games from Core Design (1996-2003) and Crystal Dynamics’ prior ‘Legend’ trilogy (2006-2008) which all follow Lara as a more seasoned adventurer.
Dallas Dickinson, the GM of the “Tomb Raider” franchise, says in a statement today: “This new engine translates into next level storytelling and gameplay experiences… Our goal is to push the envelope of fidelity and to deliver the high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience that fans deserve both from Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise.”
The project however is currently still early in the development process and there is no major announcements in terms of dates, titles or story at this time.
