“Pam & Tommy,” “Cruella” and “I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie has reportedly signed on to helm MGM’s film adaptation of Ben Mezrich’s novel “The Antisocial Network” which deals with the GameStop stock story.
The now-infamous incident last January saw stock for the brick-and-mortar video game retailer GameStop rise over 2500% amidst a wild flurry of volatility.
The run was a ‘short squeeze’ fueled by Reddit-organised online amateur investors and gamers taking on a handful of billion-dollar hedge fund behemoths – and winning.
This led to an internal investigation confronting issues in Wall Street that many have been rallying against for years.
Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo are adapting the script while Aaron Ryder is producing. The project is currently slated to begin shooting late this summer or early Fall.
