A couple of key TV promos worth a look today. First up, FX and Hulu have premiered the teaser trailer for filmmaker Danny Boyle’s six-episode event series “Pistol” based on legendary 1970s punk-rock band the Sex Pistols.
The series is adapted from guitarist Steve Jones’ memoir with Toby Wallace playing Jones alongside Anson Boon as John Lydon, Christian Lees as Glen Matlock, Louis Partridge as Sid Vicious, and Jacob Slater as Paul Cook.
Also onboard are Maisie Williams as punk icon Jordan, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as’ manager Malcolm McLaren, and Talulah Riley as McLaren’s partner and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. BAFTA winner Craig Pearce created the series which premieres in full on May 31st.
Next, Netflix has premiered the trailer for its latest event series adaptation of a Harlan Coben novel, this time a Polish adaptation of the story “Hold Tight” starring Magdalena Boczarska and Leszek Lichota.
The story follows the residents of a peaceful neighborhood in the Warsaw suburbs whose idyllic life comes to an abrupt end when a teenager Adam vanishes into thin air and parents find answers to questions they have never wanted to ask. The series launches April 22nd.
Netflix has also premiered the trailer for the second and final season of the anime series “Pacific Rim: The Black” which returns April 19th and teases the final battle between humans and Kaijus.
In the conclusion, brave siblings Taylor and Hayley still hope to reach the safety of Sydney aboard scaled-down training Jaeger Atlas Destroyer. They and several others must cross a dangerous territory controlled by the bloodthirsty cult Sisters of the Kaiju.
Finally, Disney+ has premiered the trailer for its scripted fantasy & reality competition hybrid series “The Quest” which follows eight teenage contestants and unfolds in the fantasy world of Everealm (in reality a castle outside Vienna).
The eight encounter mystical beings and magic in a fully immersive, 360-degree world complete with seamless technology, creature design, practical effects and scripted characters who interact dynamically with them. The series begins streaming May 11th.
