Netflix swept the Annie Awards this Saturday which annually celebrates the best in the field of animation.
The acclaimed “The Mitchells vs. the Machines” scored eight wins including the top award of best-animated feature. Meanwhile “Arcane,” the TV series take on the “League of Legends” game franchise, won nine including best TV/media – general audience.
All in all, Netflix won 20 of the night’s 31 trophies. The ‘Mitchells’ win is seen as a big one as it could give the film an edge over Disney’s “Encanto” as the favorite to take the Best Animated Film Oscar with final voting for that award to start Thursday.
Other winners included Disney’s “Encanto,” Neon’s documentary “Flee,” and two Netflix kids series with “Maya and the Three” and “Ada Twist, Scientist”. The video game “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” and Marvel’s “What If” series also took awards.
