“What We Do In Shadows” alum Harvey Guillen is reportedly in talks for a key top secret role in the DC Comics movie “Blue Beetle” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
In addition, Variety reports that Bruna Marquezine and Belissa Escobedo have also joined the cast with the former playing love interest character Penny, the latter as the hero’s younger sister Milagros.
The project was originally developed to premiere directly on HBO Max, ala the upcoming “Batgirl” film, but then has been switched to a theatrical release with an August 18th 2023 release date set.
The story centers on the 2006 Jamie Reyes iteration of the character – a Mexican-American teenager who discovers the Blue Beetle scarab in a disused lot on the way home from school.
It comes alive and grafts itself to his spine – providing him with a suit of extraterrestrial armor that can be modified to enhance his speed and strength as well as to create weapons, wings, and shields.
“Cobra Kai” alum Xolo Mariduena stars in the title role while Angel Manuel Soto (“Charm City Kings”) is directing from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
