The numbers are in and Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” has reportedly collected a major $128.5 million domestically and a further $120 million internationally in its box office debut.

That easily marks the best opening weekend of 2022, and only the second pandemic-era movie to cross the $100 million mark in a single weekend (the other being “Spider-Man: No Way Home”).

The hefty $200 million budget film which, had positive reviews and a very good reception from audiences with an A- CinemaScore, and still managed this gross despite the dark subject matter and three-hour runtime limiting sessions.

“The Batman” marks the first Warners title in over a year to be released exclusively in theaters with the movie expected to premiere on HBO Max around mid-late April. It also grossed more in its domestic opening weekend than any other Warner Bros. pandemic movies grossed in their entire theatrical runs last year.

Right now “The Batman” has no real competition with “Uncharted” in its third weekend the only other major release right now. That film earned a further $10 million this week and has crossed the $100 million domestic barrier and is now at a strong $271 million globally.

Both films essentially have the month of March to themselves with no competition until “The Lost City” on March 25th and no serious competition until “Morbius” on April 1st, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and “Ambulance” on April 8th and “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” on April 15th.

“Dog” came in this domestically with a further $6 million and has crossed $40 million in North America – very good for a $15 million-budgeted film.
