ABC has handed out a straight-to-series order for David E. Kelley’s new mystery drama “Avalon” with plans to premiere it for the 2022-2023 TV season.
Based on a short story by author Michael Connelly, whose books led to Amazon’s “Bosch” TV series, the show takes place on Catalina Island.
LA County Sheriff’s Department detective Nicole ‘Nic’ Searcy leads a tiny office in a place where the population is small, but more than one million tourists pass through each year. Searcy is soon pulled into a career-defining mystery that will challenge everything she knows about herself and the island.
Kelley will pen the pilot while he and Connelly are both creators and executive producers. Kelley and Connelly previously worked on Netflix’s series adaptation of Connelly’s novel “The Lincoln Lawyer” which hasn’t yet set a release date.
