In a note issued on the game’s launch day, Bandai Namco has acknowledged performance issues with the PC version of the critically acclaimed FromSoftware title “Elden Ring”.
Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry found that the 1.02 version of “Elden Ring” sports a number of issues that impact “all hardware configurations on all graphical settings presets”.
The most notable of these is stuttering of up to a quarter of a second which drops the frame rate for the title to 40fps from its capped ceiling of 60fps.
In addition, loading new game areas also apparently triggers “a second and more pervasive stutter” whilst others on Steam have reported crashes or complaints of a lack of ultrawide monitor support.
Variable refresh rate monitors and TVs seem to minimise the frame drop issue. In the note to players, the publisher says:
“We will be constantly working to improve the game so that it can be played comfortably on various PC environments and platforms… for the PC version, updating your graphics card drivers to the latest version may significantly improve performance.”
The PC version isn’t the only impacted as the PS5 version has reportedly been having problems saving progress while both PS5 and XSX have a “highly variable” performance. Digital Foundry concludes that for now it “could be sensible to wait for further patches before investing time into the PC version of Elden Ring.”
