Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh is out doing promotional rounds for his upcoming feature “KIMI” where he briefly spoke about “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” the highly-anticipated third installment in the male stripper franchise.

Soderbergh directed the first film in 2012 and helped out quite a bit on the 2015 sequel “Magic Mike XXL,” both films ended up being critical and commercial hits even as both are quite different in tone and approach.

A third film was announced back in November and whilst speaking with Collider, Soderbergh revealed Tatum plans to broaden the scope of the new film into one dealing with relationships and masculinity:

“The third [movie] is the sort of apex of everything that we’ve been talking about in that area. Not just taking the dancing to another level, but really getting into the relationship aspect that’s been an undercurrent in all of the films. Like Mike has a full-on relationship that’s at the center of this movie, while all this stuff is going on, and we haven’t done that before.”

“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” is currently slated for release exclusively on HBO Max.
